Kasese, Uganda | 10–13 August 2026

Rwenzori United Youth Association (RUYA) was honored to participate in a four-day Capacity-Building Training for Youth- and Women-Led Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) held from 10th to 13th August 2026 at Rwenzori International Hotel in Kasese.

RUYA was represented at the training by our Community Liaison Officer, Ms. Biira Sharon, who joined other youth- and women-led organizations from across the region for four days of learning, reflection, networking, and experience sharing.

The training was organized by The Prospect Initiative with the aim of strengthening the capacity of youth- and women-led civil society organizations to become more effective, resilient, and impactful in their communities.

For RUYA, participation in this training provided an important opportunity to strengthen our organizational capacity while learning from the experiences of other community-based organizations working to address social and development challenges.

Strengthening RUYA's Capacity

As a youth-led organization working with vulnerable young people, young mothers, children, and other underserved groups in the Rwenzori region, RUYA recognizes that strong organizational systems are essential for creating sustainable community impact.

The training offered an opportunity to reflect on areas including organizational development, leadership, collaboration, resource mobilization, advocacy, and effective engagement with communities and partners.

Ms. Biira Sharon also had the opportunity to interact with fellow CSO representatives, exchange experiences, and explore possibilities for collaboration.

Learning Through Collaboration

One of the most valuable aspects of the training was the opportunity to learn alongside organizations with different experiences, approaches, and areas of focus.

RUYA believes that meaningful change is strengthened when civil society organizations share knowledge, build partnerships, and work together toward common goals.

The training therefore went beyond classroom learning. It created a platform for organizations to connect, identify shared challenges, and consider how stronger collaboration can contribute to more effective community interventions.

Bringing the Learning Back to Our Communities

RUYA is committed to ensuring that opportunities such as this translate into practical improvements within our organization and the communities we serve.

The knowledge and lessons gained from the training will contribute to RUYA's continued efforts to strengthen its programs, partnerships, organizational systems, and community engagement.

We sincerely appreciate The Prospect Initiative for creating this valuable platform for youth- and women-led CSOs in Kasese and for recognizing the important role that local organizations play in community development.

RUYA also appreciates all participating organizations for the openness, ideas, and experiences shared throughout the four days.

As a youth-led organization from the Rwenzori region, RUYA remains committed to empowering young people, supporting vulnerable communities, promoting opportunities for young mothers, and building partnerships that create lasting change.

Together, stronger local organizations can build stronger communities.
